Abu Dhabi Department of Transport was established by Law Number 4 of 2006 which was amended later by Law Number 5 of 2008 and was mandated the regulation of all areas of transport in order to achieve thorough transport planning and policy coordination as they are developed by a single entity. This law authorizes DoT to be the specialized entity in economic monitoring and supervision of all transport sectors and gives it the capacity to issue all necessary policies, legislations and laws required to achieve the highest levels of environment protection and public health and Safety as well as promoting economic development in all transport related sectors in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in order to elevate these sectors in cooperation with internal and international entities.

DoT handles the planning, designing and implementation of all phases of Public Transport Services in the Emirate.

DoT is the governmental entity responsible for developing unified transport policies and strategic plans which cover all transport sectors including : Aviation, Maritime, Public Transport, Main Roads and Related Infrastructure.
